Supermend frequently asked questions

We hope his article will help you to make decisive decisions when using Supermend:

Can you wash your items that have been repaired with Supermend, without them coming down?
YES. All effective repairs should be permanent and should stay up with washing, boiling, or dry cleaning.

Can you put your items in a hot tumble dryer without them coming down? YES

Is it non-toxic? YES

Does it contain any chemicals that give you an allergic reaction?
No it does not, you can use it on delicate baby clothes and blankets and its safe to use for your pet items too, such as dog basket repairs and horse blankets.

What happens if you want to undo your repair? Or hem, and start again. You will need to re-heat the area with a hot iron to re-activate your glue and peel it down with a knife or pair of scissors whilst it is hot. Any remaining residue can be mopped up by placing greaseproof paper over the top of your access glue and heating it up with a hot iron. The glue should then transfer from the item. onto the paper. Sometimes, this method can also be used to remove any spilt glue that you have forgotten to blow away. If you are repairing waterproof garments, tents, or outdoor gazebos, for example, use a homemade backing patch,
made with a waterproof fabric, to keep it waterproof.

What happens if I am trying to repair a darn hole in a wool garment, but I have no spare colour-match fabric to mash up into fibres to fill the hole? Mash up a ball of wool or a tapestry thread, in a matching colour, and fill the hole with it instead.

Why has my repair made my fabric hard and stiff? You have used way too much powder. You need to reheat, peel back your work and start again. Remember on delicate fabrics you only use a few granules of powder, like salt and pepper on a dinner.

How come you need a hot linen temperature iron for all your work, to melt the powder? Because it needs to melt hotter than the water boiling point, to stop it coming down in the wash.

How do you stop your fabric from burning if you use a linen temp iron on silk for example? You protect your fabric with 2/3 layers of greaseproof paper. This will stop the heat from being too hot on your fabric and prevent it from burning. Mistakes can easily prevented by practicing first on a similar type of fabric before you do your repairs.
